HISTORICAL CONTEXT

Shaolin Dhyana Exercise (Jing Chan Gong) is the foundational internal work (Neigong) of the Shaolin Temple, rooted in the Chan Buddhist philosophy of 'Nihilism' or 'Emptiness' (Kong Wu). This profound system is presented by Master Shi Xingliao, a 32nd-generation martial monk and international Qigong master. Historically, Dhyana (Zen) meditation was the core practice that empowered the Shaolin monks to achieve legendary levels of focus and physical resilience. This exercise is not merely a mental practice but a sophisticated method of internal energy management. This DVD preserves the authentic methods used to enter a state of absolute quiescence, allowing the practitioner to tap into the body's latent life force and achieve a state of 'Pure Stillness' (Chun Jing).

PHILOSOPHICAL FOUNDATION

The technical philosophy of Shaolin Dhyana centers on the concept of 'Intent guiding Qi' (Yi Ling Qi). The practitioner is taught to enter a state of being calm, composed, and easy through three primary modes: Sitting Dhyana, Standing Dhyana, and Lying Dhyana. The goal is to cluster and circulate Vital Energy within the 'Nine Openings' (Jiu Qiao) of the human body. These openings are treated as energetic 'power plants' that, when activated through subtle volition, convey power to the vital organs and systems. The philosophy emphasizes that 'long-term stillness is a blessing,' leading to a life of vigor and health through the realization of one's internal potential.

KINETIC MEDITATION

Biomechanically, the Dhyana Exercise involves the subtle rotation of internal energy at various centers of the body. Master Shi Xingliao demonstrates how the practitioner uses mental focus to guide the flow of Qi, creating a state of internal pressure and circulation without external movement. This neigong practice strengthens the central nervous system and balances the endocrine system. The 'Rotation of Energy' within the openings ensures that the life force is constantly renewed and distributed to the body's most critical areas. This approach creates a state of Body-Mind Integration where the physical structure is supported by a robust and fluid energetic field, enhancing both mental clarity and physical robustness.

PRACTICE AND APPLICATION

This DVD provides a detailed breakdown of the Dhyana technical routine, covering the specific requirements for posture, breath, and mental focus in each of the three positions. Master Shi Xingliao explains how to use the 'Nine Openings' to nourish the internal organs and maintain a high level of vitality. The instruction is designed to help individuals of all backgrounds achieve a state of mental tranquility and physical health. Regular practice of Shaolin Dhyana is highly effective for reducing stress, improving sleep, and building a strong internal foundation. By following the lineage-based guidance of a true Shaolin master, practitioners can access the profound spiritual and physical benefits of the Chan tradition, achieving a state of holistic wellness and internal harmony.

Master Shi Xingliao (32nd-Generation Shaolin Martial Monk)

Shi Xingliao is a 32nd-generation martial monk of the Shaolin Temple. Entering the Songshan Shaolin Temple at an early age, he trained rigorously under renowned Shaolin masters and mastered the authentic lineage of traditional Shaolin martial arts. He is not only highly proficient in core Shaolin fist forms and weaponry but also possesses deep cultivation in the internal cultivation methods of the Shaolin Buddhist styles.
During the 1990s, Shi Xingliao dedicated himself to the preservation and systematization of traditional Shaolin martial arts. He traveled extensively to gather scattered techniques, organizing them into a structured curriculum, and participated in the recording of several invaluable early instructional video materials for Shaolin Kung Fu. Among his works, the Shaolin Buddha Jiugong Palm (Nine Palace Palm) and traditional Shaolin Hard Qigong routines—both demonstrated and compiled by him—fully embody the technical characteristics of Shaolin martial arts, where "Chan (Zen) and Martial Arts Merge into One, and Hardness and Softness Mutual Support." His efforts made significant contributions to the digital preservation and global dissemination of traditional Shaolin fist forms.
HERITAGE COLLECTION: This instructional media is part of the Chinoiserie2008 Traditional Wushu Collection. Our mission is to preserve the authentic lineage and technical standards of Chinese martial arts through systematic digital documentation.
